Abstract

This mixed methods study investigated perceptions of work life for 661 teachers from a midwestern state during the COVID-19 pandemic using the ProQOL5 survey and open-ended items. This study is a contribution to mixed methods research because it utilizes the tidytext package in R to understand better the results. The ProQOL5 survey was score-validated using confirmatory factor analysis and then the three factors were examined via qualitative analyses of open-ended questions. Results showed there was great variation in how teachers perceived their new professional situations of teaching remotely during COVID-19: some adjusted well, some struggled on numerous fronts, and many were between these two extremes.
